Rita Durrett

Welcome to my web site. I am a writer and crafter. Please check out my books, hoop art, afghans, and quilts before you leave.

I am an Oklahoma native and the oldest of four children. I graduated from Okmulgee High School and attended Oklahoma State University. "Go Pokes!"  My teaching career in Family and Consumer Sciences spanned 40 years, but I am now retired and writing full time.

My experience in the field of education and living in the mid-west has exposed me to individuals as unique and inspirational as the land from which they come. Bits and pieces of each of those myriad of personalities help me to create memorable characters that come alive on the page and grab at your heartstrings. Understanding what your character’s feelings is

an important part of writing.

I may never become a famous author, but I feel my books have had an impact. I'm an example to my students in saying, “I set a goal to write a book, then wrote, and published it. If you want to do something in life, set your goals and work for them.”

My home is in Fayetteville, Arkansas. I have two sons and am grandmother to six energetic boys and an inquisitive girl.

I am also a reluctant blogger. I find it hard to believe that anyone is interested in my life. On the other hand, I have a lot experience gained through life and I enjoy sharing my thoughts and ideas. Follow the page link above to my blog page and read my posts.
